Away from the Paris Fashion Week crowds, this weekend another art form is being celebrated in the French capital: the tattoo. The third edition of the mammoth tattoo convention, Mondial du tatouage, is being held in the spectacular and roomy Grande Halle de la Villette for three days, featuring 300 tattoo artist from as far as Thailand, Singapore, Taiwan and South Korea. Fans of this indelible world will be able to watch and participate in tattoo shows and competitions, with categories that range from the best black and white design to the best full body composition. Not for the faint hearted, tattoo fans can either book themselves in for an intricate and hyperreal portrait on the forearm or opt for a “drop-in” spur-of-the-moment abstract emblem on their neck. Squeamish loved ones can amuse themselves at one of the electro and heavy metal live performances. Be sure to check out must-see artists like Taiwanese Horihui, Sailor Bit from Switzerland and self-taught traditional Japanese tattoo artist Shige.
