Articles // London // Arts & Culture EXHIBITION OF THE WEEK: BURDEN OF PROOF 19 nov. 2015 A haunting selection of images. There’s always a reason to go to the Photographers’ Gallery in London and, from 2 October 2015, one will be to check out ‘Burden of Proof: The Construction of Visual Evidence.’ Photography’s been used as evidence in courtrooms since the late 1800s but, as the gallery points out, "the reliability of photographic ‘facts’ were ardently debated…contested and often contradicted". Now that we walk about in public with our own pocket panopticons, the question of an image’s truthfulness is even more pressing. To investigate, the exhibition "presents eleven case studies spanning the period from the invention of ‘metric’ photography of crime scenes…to the reconstruction of a drone attack in Pakistan in 2012." Burden of Proof runs from 2 October 2015 – 10 January 2016 at The Photographers’ Gallery.
