Articles // London // Arts & Culture Cocktails and Rothschilds: Check Out The New Hockney Exhibition At The RA 16 Jun 2016 Following his acclaimed 2012 landscape/iPad show at the Royal Academy... David Hockney is back with an exhibition in the Sackler Wing that features portraits made in Los Angeles over the past three years. His subjects – all friends, family and acquaintances – including office staff, fellow artists, curators; the likes of Barry Humphries, Lord Jacob Rothschild, John Baldessari and gallerist Larry Gagosian. They all get the same treatment: depicted on the same size canvas, sitting in the same chair, against the same blue background, and were each completed in a three-day time frame. However, as you’d imagine, Hockney’s paint handling allows each sitter’s personality to shine through in an immediate and direct way. This season the RA is opening late on Fridays and Saturdays during the summer. Visit one of their shows at night, sample a cocktail from one of their many bars or simply soak up the evening ambience in the courtyard. To get to the Royal Academy from Generator London take the Piccadilly Line from Russell Square to Piccadilly and walk. Tickets cost £11.50 for adults and £9.00 for students – book them here.
