Articles // Berlin // Music TRUST BERLIN TO PUT ON THE COOLEST MUSIC FESTIVAL EVER! 05 Aug 2016 Pop-Kultur is running from 31 August to 2 September 2016. The recent city-based festivals we’ve featured on Parallel have demonstrated a growing trend for the multi-disciplinary – it’s not longer just a few bands and DJs in a venue you already know, but a panoply of talks, discussions and events. Berlin’s Pop-Kultur, now in its second year, is following this ethos too. “Over the course of three days, the festival turns into one big productive laboratory for the most ambitious of ideas,” the organisers say. Some of those ideas will be brought to you by the most forward-thinking and exciting musicians around today. The sonic alchemist Matthew Herbert – a man who has literally created an album out of a pig and DJ’ed with vegetables and sugar – will be reading his new album in a world premiere. Sounds intriguing! Fatima Al Qadiri will be doing a DJ set at a jam-packed night that also includes Alice Cohen and the incredible US band Liars. And one of the main feature events is Scottish art-rockers Mogwai performing their new album Atomic in its entirety. All the events are held at different theatres, concert halls and clubs across Berlin, so buying a few tickets for different “modules” is a great way to see new parts of the city, whilst being educated in the coolest new music out there. Tickets for all the different events range from €12 to €35 so shop around and see what looks the most interesting! If you want to attend three or more events you can buy a combo-ticket and get 10% off. Photo: Roland Owsnitzki, Pop-Kultur 2015.
