Or how far does one Euro take you ….

The gasping void in your purse, who does not know that feeling of dwindling funds? The month-end is still far away and payday is not yet in sight. An uneasy feeling slowly rises out of the stomach, sweat appears on your forehead, if you look in your wallet. Yesterday there was the 10 euro bill and now one only copper coin.

Money is running out and it becomes invisible in your wallet. Most of the times you don’t remember, where you have spent it. In Germany, since 2002 the Euro replaced the good old Deutsche Mark and the older generations still revert back to it. “€ 1 which is 2 DM”, it sounds in many ears. But has the value decreased or has it been just adjusted? The minds are split.

One Euro is 100 cents, 10 small gold coins. What can you buy for that? Especially in 2013?

In the 40’s you got twelve pints of beer for one Euro, that is a whopping 6 litres. In the 70’s you could purchase a total of 48 eggs for one Euro and in the 80′s you even got a litre of petrol for a goldling. Today petrol prices almost doubled and if you’re lucky, you get 0.5 litres for the price of one euro. In Britain you get just two packets of crisps and 1.5 cans of mean beanz for € 1.

Looking at the Euro as international purchasing power you can buy can buy 3 pints of beer in Panama for 100 cents. In Costa Rica, for the same amount of dough you get 1 fresh, juicy pineapple. In India, you can even buy 6 Kit Kats for € 1. This is three times as many as in Germany … So, ”take a break” in India!

But if you want to let your hair down and get a complete make over, head down to the Philippines. There you get the real deal and value for money. €1 and you get a new haircut.

Back in Germany the reality will hit you. In Berlin a one way ticket with the BVV in the AB zone costs € 2.40 and Berlin is already cheap as chips compared to the cost of public transport in London or Copenhagen. Zone 1 to 2 diminishes your dosh by £ 2.80 (€ 3.20) in London and DKK 24 (€3.21) in Copenhagen. So much to low cost travelling….

Just imagine, on 21st March Generator is organizing a massive 24-hour huge bed sale. For 24 hours (these are 1440 minutes) you can buy a bed for € 1 at Generator Berlin East for the rest of the year.

These are 285 days until the end of the year, every day a chance to stay in Berlin for 1 €. Madness …. so, what are you waiting for?

Brace your credit card (you just need it to make an online reservation), decide when you want to go to Berlin (in April for the Marathon, in May for the Summer Rave in Tempelhof, CSD in June or many other top events) and then go and book your bed!

(and already has)

The year has 365 days and every day is a little different, but some days are extra special and will stay longer in your memory.

For us the 21st March is extra special, as it will be the day which will go down in history with Generator. Stay tuned for more infos from us, but here is first, why the 21st March is so special.

On the 21st March there are still exactly 285 days until the end of the year. 285 days, which are best spend with friends, partying and exploring new places. So, why not plan an a trip to explore Berlin? The East Side Gallery, districts like Prenzelberg or Kreuzberg, the many alternative cafes and bars, Berlin’s breath-taking street art. The historic Berlin has something in stalls for everyone, especially with places like the Reichstag, Unter den Linden, Checkpoint Charlie, and many more. Even back in 1871 history was written on the 21th March in Berlin, as there the third German Reichstag was open.

But not only in Berlin is 21st March marks history. 1965 Martin Luther King led the U.S. civil rights movement on his third and most successful march; Alcatraz closed its doors and all the inmates were moved. In 1999, the 21st March went into history books as the day of the first circumnavigation of the world in a hot air balloon.

U2 rewrote music history on 21st March with the release of their legendary album, Joshua Tree ‘. That was in 1987. And 1964 on the same day Italy won the Eurovision Song Contest. Lalalalala …

And the 21st March hosts following footballers, musicians and millionaires birthdays: 1980 – Ronaldinho, 1961 – Lothar Matthäus , 1906 – no less than Rockefeller and 1685 – Johann Sebastian Bach.

The 21st March 2013 seems to see a mere 12 hours and 29 minutes of sun and according to the solar calendar, and it is also beginning of spring! Yippiee! Berlin in the spring is the best.

If you’re in Berlin on the 21st March 2013 already, then you can certainly so see some of the stars and starlets of the German music scene. The 21st March is the day of the German Music Prize, the Echo Awards! In addition to old rockers like ‘Die Ärzte’ and Nena, Cro, Deichkind and Silbermond are on the list for the popular German music trophy. International artists such as Emeli Sande, Florence & The Machine and Mumford and Sons will compete for the award, and one or the other hopefully walk the walk at the red carpet. Berlin is once again entirely in the spotlight and will convinve as THE German city to be!

So hurry and don’t miss out, on the 21st March you can for a full 24 hours and as little as a limp Euro, grab a bed in our East Berlin Hostel! Don’t waste time…beds go like hot cakes! Hurry. Cick here to book, the offer is only on for a limted time. Tell all your friends, acquaintances, lovers and Lost-ones …. Go, tweet or share it on Facebook. 21st March, 1am GMT, for 24 hours and for only € 1 ….

For €1 to Berlin with Generator.

Earth Hour is a global movement uniting people to protect the planet. It encourages everyone to take personal accountability for their impact on the planet and to adopt a sustainable lifestyle. Taking the first step is as easy as turning off your lights.

Towards the end of March every year, Earth Hour brings together communities from across the world celebrating a commitment to the planet by switching off lights for one designated hour. Last year Earth Hour took place in more than 7001 cities and towns in 152 countries and territories across all seven continents. Hundreds of millions of people switched their lights off for an hour, and the campaign experienced its biggest growth since 2009.

This year Generator unites with Earth Hour as we commit to doing something more for the planet that goes beyond the hour.

On the 23rd March we will be serving organic, sustainably sourced food and we’ll be hosting green activities all day. Between 20:30 and 21:30, Generator’s lights will go off to be replaced by a cosy, candle-lit atmosphere with live acoustic entertainment as we celebrate our commitment towards creating a more sustainable world. Check out our Worl Hour Event on Facebook.

And by the way we are Berlin’s 3rd biggest building after the Brandenburger Tor and the Berliner Rathaus which will turn off the lights!

What will you do for Earth Hour? Get inspired by Earth Hour’s official video.

Book a bed and a ticket for Berlin’s Summer Rave on the 25.05.2013…prices start from 50.00€!

Rave tickets only now available on sale to Generator guests – price €20.00!

This year the line-up is unbeatable! Four Hangar’s are being transformed into dance floors and will be pounding with breakbeats, electro, house, old school techno or rave tunes.

The Summer Rave is a ‘classic’ amongst festivals in Berlin. Classic only in the sense of , a-not-to-miss’ and ‘a must’ for any music fan’. Since the legendary Love Parade has departed to festival heaven every year thousands of rave and house music fans are trekking to Berlin Tempelhof Airport to celebrate the Summer Rave.

To ensure the whole fun for music fans is not going to be expensive, we have prepared a super hot Berlin Rave ticket for you. Buy a bed and a ticket via Generator (here are some info’s about out cool rooms in Berlin East) and you get VIP entrance to the rave, a shuttle bus to Berlin Tempelhof Airport and much more. Prices start from 50.00€ – bargain!

Generator Berlin East is the perfect stop for ravers, house lovers , funksters, dubsters and old school techno fans. With direct connection to the airport (Ringbahn), is the Generator in an Ex DDR office building home to a neonlight, raving bar, ensuite rooms and free WI-FI. And with the tube running 24hrs in Berlin what does your raver heart crave more?

Here are a few more details about our spectacular package, you can choose between 1 or 2 nights:

And for the Summer rave, believe it or not, the main floor will be headed up by oldschool Raver DJ Westbam and will be named Bass Planet! Westbam will certainly not hold back on his classic mixes, but also give a taster of his recently published album ,Götterstrasse’. Besides the ‘Wahlberliner’ Westbam the French cult act Vitalic, Dumme Jungs and the pretty newcomer Djane Schmitzkatze will let the bass tremble.

The House Hangar stands in strong in contrast to Rave Hanger, but that doesn’t mean that the party stops here. None other than the famous Mousse T will be here the headliner, followed by House masters like Falko Niestolik, Oliver Schories and Djane Bebetta. Moreover house newcomers can apply via the music magazine FAZE to win a slot at the House Hangar.

The third hangar is as usual supported by Berlin’s Kultlabel Ostfunk. The Ostfunk hangar will feature a number of artists like Aka Aka, with their trumpeter Thalstroem, the live act Electrixx, easily recognisable with their neon suits and other funk rave highlights such as Lützenkirchen, Torsten Kanzler, Daniel Boon and Oliver Tratsch.

To give you a breather during the 12 hour Rave marathon and to rest your feet for a while from all that dancing, a forth hangar will be converted into a massive Chillax zone. Hunger and thirst tormented their ravers can fill their bellies at the outdoor area at Berlin’s old airport. Fallafel, doner kebab and currywurst are some of the proven festival grub.

Here’s the trailer for the Berlin Summer Rave 2013!

Get your bed and ticket while its hot! Join the fun with the Generator Summer Rave Package.
