Venice Marathon

10am City wide

You don’t have to get up too early on Sunday morning to see the Venice marathon, as much of the course actually lies on the mainland. For the real thrill, watch the runners in the last 2-3km as their skirt the island and the dramatic finish at Riva Sette Martiri.

One of the highlights is the 170m pontoon bridge built across the end of the Grand Canal to St Mark’s Square, constructed the night before the race and is dismantled the evening after. The course is a fast and flat and in the final part of the race the runners will have to negotiate 14 small, wooden bridges over the canals.
