Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park
On 21st November, Hyde Park’s famous Winter Wonderland is returning. The annual event has become a London seasonal classic and whether you haven’t yet ticked it off the list or you’ve visited before, it’s a perfect and free way to get into the Christmas spirit either way!
Within Winter Wonderland is a fantastic Christmas market full of arts and crafts, jewellery and decorations for those all-important gifts and festive purchases. You’ll find the wooden chalets are really charming and the fact they’re overflowing with quality goods makes them all the more so.
Winter Wonderland isn’t just a Christmas Market however. Aside from a great ice rink, there’s more in the form of ice by way of the Magical Ice Kingdom. The Kingdom boasts an ‘ice forest’ of frozen sculptures and a gleaming ice castle – it’s a neat and chilly little spectacle. There are also various other activities if you’re looking to make a day of it – there’s rollercoasters and other rides plus an observation wheel for a 60 metre flight above London, offering stunning views of the city’s skyline. Plus, there’s a Circus if you’re into that!
As for food and drink, look no further than on site – Winter Wonderland has various restaurants, bars and food stalls. Warm yourself up with a classic mulled wine or perhaps nibble on some traditional festive German cuisine.
While Winter Wonderland is free to enter and the market free to browse, you’ll need a ticket for the extra attractions such as the skating and observation wheel. Your hostel is a pretty well-placed one for this – jump on the Piccadilly Line at Russell Square (5 minute walk away) for 6 stops and you’re there. Alternatively you can take a 20 minute bus ride.
