London Restaurant Festival 2014
London is famed for its diverse culture and eateries so the London Restaurant Festival in October is a must for visiting foodies.
The festival has been going for only six years but was the brain child of a bunch of top chefs who wanted to raise the profile of more than 800 restaurants in London and acknowledge the great pleasure and sustenance they have given.
There are several ways to enjoy the London Restaurant Festival and they won’t all break the bank. You can book yourself on a Gourmet Odyssey which will take you to a few selected establishments in a particular area of the city and you eat a hand-picked dish at each one. These are for hard-core foodies who are looking for the best in restaurant dining.
The food tours are named for the types of restaurants to be visited – Japanese Journey, Tapas Tour and Cicchetti Trail. You can decide to try something new or stick with your favourite type of nosh. This is a great way to visit a few restaurants in an area and get a good idea of what’s available.
There are also the Graze events at various spots around the city where you can buy a ‘graze’ dish at selected participating restaurants and grab a free drink.
Other special events include film nights, where you are invited to watch a classic film and are served up a dinner that is themed on the film. You can also try out a few ‘festival menus’ as many of the restaurants will be putting together sampler menus for as little as £10.
The London Restaurant Festival is spread across the whole of London and you can follow it on Twitter or Facebook to find out about events and what other people are saying. One of the most popular tours will be the Shard Gourmet Odyssey. You can catch the Northern Line from Euston and be there in about 25 minutes.
