Film4 Summer Screen at Somerset House
If you are a fan of the silver screen and happen to be in London this August then a trip to Somerset House should be on your tick list. Every summer in the huge courtyard of this beautiful Tudor palace a cinema sized screen is set up and classic and never seen before films are shown during the warm summer evenings.
Summer Screen is sponsored by the arty and offbeat Film4 channel so you can expect an eclectic mix of interesting and sometimes challenging films on show. Here is a pick of a few of the films that are to be shown:
Heroic Double Bills
For fans of action movies with a clear cut hero and bad guy then try these two double bills. The first is A Fistful of Dollars & Mad Max 2 and the second is Ghostbusters & Big Trouble in Little China.
For laugh out loud flicks try Annie Hall, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, The Royal Tenenbaums or the brand new film What We Do in the Shadows, a hilarious mockumentary about four vampires living together in modern New Zealand.
Behind the Screen
As well as these amazing films you can also get tickets to go inside Somerset House with Behind the Screen. There will be a film tour, an insight into how Hollywood icons create their looks, a special on 10 years of Film4 shorts plus an exclusive from Richard Ayoade, star of The IT Crowd, and the films of his life.
Doors open at around 6.30pm and there is a DJ on for a couple of hours to keep the punters entertained until the films start at around 9pm.
Somerset House is on The Strand and is only about 25 minutes’ walk from Generator London or you can catch the 68 bus from Tavistock Square which runs every 3 minutes and tales about 15 minutes.
