Planten un Blomen Water Lights
This summer something spectacular is happening at Planten un Blomen. At 2pm, 4pm and 6pm every day, and at selected times during the evening, water fountain shows are performed on the lake in this pretty public park.
These concerts are a beautiful display of water and 762 colourful lights set to music to create a great atmosphere. They are performed by two artists – one person controlling the water fountains and another controlling the “light piano”, all in time to the music. The light piano features 95 white keys and sprays water from 99 nozzles at heights of up to 36 metres.
To see this show at its most impressive, head down to the park at 10pm during August (9pm during September) when the multi-coloured lights truly stand out against the backdrop of the black sky. The event provides a particularly romantic setting if you’re with someone special.
Entrance to the park is free, so while you are there you may want to take a look around and see what else Planten un Blomen has to offer. Take a stroll around the rose garden, Mediterranean terraces, or the largest Japanese garden in Europe. There are also free classical and jazz concerts from time to time if that’s your bag. In summer, the park is open from 7am until 11pm, with the greenhouses opening at 9am on weekdays and 10am at weekends, and closing at 4:45pm on weekdays and 5.45pm at weekends.
To get to Planten un Blomen, take the 112 bus from Hauptbahnhof to Holstenwall 13 and you’ll get there in around fifteen minutes, or take the U3 underground which brings you out a little further away on the west side of the park. If you fancy a stroll you could walk to the park from Generator Hamburg, which will take you around half an hour.
