If you like a walk on the wild side and are looking for a bit of an adventure in Hamburg this June try the Tierpark Hagenbeck. For a couple of selected nights the zoo opens its doors after hours for a special show – Jungle Nights.
The show is now a polished affair having been going for more than 30 years, and you can expect the paths of the zoo to be thronging with excited visitors. There will be everything from acrobatics and fireworks to street performers and artists working right there in front of you, all set to an ethereal mix of ethnic music.
The entertainment definitely has an exotic flavour with global cultures from Africa to South America represented. The highlight will be the Bengali fireworks show at the close of the evening so be sure to stick around for that.
The evening starts at 6pm and normal tickets prices apply. You don’t even need to book in advance, just turn up and buy one – they cost around 20Euros.
The Tierpark Hagenbeck is only a 15 minute drive from the centre of Hamburg. Or you can catch the train from Hauptbahnhof Nord which is just down the road from Generator Hamburg.
Even if you can’t make it for this amazing evening it is well worth taking a day out to visit the zoo if you have time on your trip. It is one of the most beautiful parks in Europe and the zoo has a good reputation for keeping the animals in great shape.
The Arctic /Antarctic walk through is brilliant as is the aquarium. There are loads of chances to watch and participate in feeding times and you can really feel close to the animals, plus the baby elephants are really cute!
