Street Performance World Championship
Merrion Square Park will be home to some pretty astonishing entertainment this July as it will be taken over by the Street Performance World Championship. If you are looking for something a bit different then be prepared for jaw dropping, spectacular stunts from some of the world’s most amazing acts.
With free entry and a chance to take part yourself this is a brilliant way to spend a weekend in Dublin. So what can you expect to see?
Cirque No Problem
You have heard of Cirque du Soleil well, these are guys will make you laugh out loud with their comedy circus antics. It’s not a case of custard pies and funny shoes but incredible acrobatics and audience participation that sets Cirque No Problem apart.
This act may not be quite what you think it is – not an extraordinarily flexible guy but actually a guy that likes to put rubber bands on his head!
Lords of Strut
Here are a couple of local guys that will have you laughing and gaping in equal measure. With a tongue in cheek nod to another famous dance act there is more probably comedy than great dance moves with the Lords of Strut.
Dublin Community Circus
This is a chance to get in amongst it and hone your circus skills. Step out on stilts, jump into juggling or have a go at hula-hooping.
This is only a small taster – you can also make some noise at Fuinneamh, a 14ft drum; chill out at the LAYAbout Area; listen to some of Ireland’s best musicians, dancers, and all round entertainers at the Buskers Stage, and loads more.
Getting to Merrion Square Park from Generator Dublin couldn’t be easier. You can catch a number of buses from the Arran Quay which is 5 minutes walk from the hostel. It takes about 20 minutes in total.
