Jameson Dublin International Film Festival
Normally a pretty lively city, the atmosphere in Dublin will reach new frenzied heights this month with the arrival of Jameson Dublin International Film Festival.
Only in its 12th year, the festival is now a draw to some of the biggest names in the business and last year saw a special guest appearance of Hollywood legend Danny DeVito. Previous years have seen the likes of Mark Wahlberg, Martin Sheen, Tilda Swinton, Colin Firth and Kristin Scott Thomas gracing the red carpets.
Celebrating the very best in film as an art form and with more than 140 amazing pieces on offer, here are just a few which we think will be worth a look:
Tracks – John Curran
Greta Garbo’s famous quote about wanting to be alone comes alive in this unusual film about one woman’s trek across the desert of the Australian outback with her dog and four camels for company, for no apparent reason than she just needs some space. The part is beautifully played by Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland). We love that this is based on a real-life story.
Twenty Feet From Stardom – Morgan Neville
Often the stage at a gig is dominated by the big name and many do not notice or even realise that there are a bunch of supremely talented singers behind the front who have just missed out on the big bucks. This documentary is a set of revealing, behind the scenes interviews and footage with both the stars and those supporting them on stage. You will be amazed at what goes on just a little back from the spotlight.
Borgman – Alex van Warmerdam
Imagine the scene: a well-off family suddenly have what looks like a vagrant at their door asking politely for a shower. Perhaps understandably the husband violently refuses, but the wife secretly admits the man into the house. This is when the trouble starts.
