Skandia Adventure Race
Familiar with the Tough Mudder and Ironman contests, where men and women compete in several gruelling challenges? Now Copenhagen’s Skandia Adventure Race can be added to the list.
The race consists of groups of 2-3 people who as a team cycle, run, canoe and do other adventure activities like racing on airbeds while searching for hidden items – and all within 2 hours. The winning team is the one that has collected the most items and earned the most points. The race is open to all comers and participants don’t have to run; they can just take their time just having fun around the course.
Most of the race takes place around the island of Amager Strandpark. This is one of the largest beach areas in Copenhagen and is worth a visit at any time for the stretches of beautifully golden sands, and water sports. Another popular event is the Round AmagerStrandpark race which is a canoe race around the island.
Once the excitement of the race is over the suburb of Amager is a lovely place to get a bite to eat. Right on the beach with great views is Couloir and their burgers are highly recommended. For the best pizza in town try the Piccola Italia on Amagerbrogade.
Or if you are just looking for a coffee and a cake to keep you going then head to Cafe Pelikan also on Amagerbrogade. Its location means that you are likely to find more locals and a less crowded touristy atmosphere.
To get to AmagerStrandaprk from Generator Copenhagen catch the Metro from Kongens Nytorv to Øresund St and the beach is a few minutes’ walk from there.
