German-American Folk Festival 2014
Berlin is home to a thriving American population who are very friendly and love to party. So every year this means a month long German-American Folk Festival. The festival is one of the big events of the year and you can expect crowds of people to turn up.
Each area of the festival has its own theme, for example there will be beach chill out zones reminiscent of southern states like Florida and California. There are also Mid-west themed areas and a mini New York. In between is one of the largest fun fairs you will have ever seen.
The food is very American too, so if you are looking for a snack then pick up a genuine US corndog or for something a bit meatier try a freshly barbequed hotdog or burger.
There will also be live bands to provide the perfect rock or country and western soundtrack to your festival fun as well as cowboys doing lasso tricks, cheerleaders, beauty contests and bull wrestling plus loads more.
When you have been on all the rides, danced to the music and generally had your fill then head back into Berlin for a slap up American feast at Midtown Grill not far from Potsdamer Platz. You can sit down to some of the juiciest slabs of beef in Berlin accompanied by friendly staff and washed down with a few ice cold beers.
If you are just in the mood for a drink try Juleps New York Bar & Restaurant on Giesebrechtstr. Order you favourite frilly drink or straight up shot in a classy New York setting, and don’t forget their happy hour between 5pm and 8pm.
The festival is on the fairground on Heidesatrasse just to the north of the city centre. Whether you are coming from Generator Berlin Prenzlauer Berg or from Generator Berlin Mitte you will need to end up at the U bahn station at Reinickendorfer Strasse and the site is only a few minutes’ walk from there.
