Berlin Music Week 2014
Whatever your taste in tunes Berlin Music Week has it all for you. Whether you are an up-all-night clubber or a down and dirty thrash metal fan there are gigs galore of all varieties in Berlin this weekend.
As David Bowie once famously said “Berlin is the greatest cultural extravaganza that one could imagine”.
Many of the gigs will be at the famous Berlin venue Postbahnhof, which is an icon in the Berlin nightclub scene.
Some of the shows will be headlined by some top names like Chase & Status, the amazing London DJ duo; English alternative rock band Editors; and soul legend that is Nene Cherry.
Other bands to look out for include Olson, the next unsigned hype coming out of Germany; jazz/soul/hip hop guru Gilles Peterson; and French video artist Yoann Lemoine who has shot for Lana Del Rey, Katy Perry and Taylor Swift.
While there will be gigs all week the big highlight of the festival is the weekend at Tempelhof. You can expect a full on weekend packed with gigs of all genres and types – the only thing you can be sure of is a wickedly good time.
You will probably need some nosh to keep up your energy levels for dancing and moshing and luckily the area around Postbahnhof is teeming with great restaurants.
Volkshammer on Straße der PariserKommune is not far from the famous East Side Gallery so you can tick that one off after dinner. The cuisine is traditional, tasty and in ample quantities for the hungry festival goer.
For a lighter bite try the Restaurante Casa Lola on KoppenStrasse. The Spanish based food is mainly delicate fish, vegetable and rice dishes and you can have as much or as little as you want with their tapas.
Postbahnhof is in the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district and on the S5, S7 or S75 line, right by the Ostbahnof stop. It takes around a quarter of an hour from either Generator Hostel.
