Berlin Fashion Week 2014
Berlin Fashion Week is one of the biggest events in the city’s calendar. Top designers, models and fashionistas from across the globe come to gorge themselves on the latest trends and find out what to wear next season.
Bread & Butter
Bread & Butter is the leading trade show at Berlin fashion week and not to be missed. Whether you are a fashion diva or just looking for some top notch threads a wander around in, this high end brand fair at Tempelhof will not disappoint. Expect a South American flavour as the theme this summer is a Brazilian Carnival. The fair is open from 10am to 7pm for the first 3 days of Fashion Week.
The younger and more daring sibling to Bread & Butter is Bright. On show will be the latest New York street and urban wear. The sneakers and baggy shorts display the undercurrent of skateboard culture running through the show.
Berlin Fashion Week has gone green. There are several events linked to environmental issues and how to dress fashionably but planet friendly. Try the Green Show Room which is a high street brands show at Hotel Adlon Kempinski. Or the Ethical fashion show at E-werk on Wilhelmstraße.
As well as runway shows and trade fairs there are also some great exhibitions in Berlin. One not to miss is the David Bowie exhibition at Martin-Gropius-Bau. The exhibition runs from May to August so even if you miss Berlin Fashion Week you can still have a look at some of the most iconic clothes that have ever been worn. See Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust jumpsuit, the iconic Union Jack coat plus photos, original notes by the Bowie, film clips and loads more.
Many of the events are in the centre of the city around Unter den Linden, Check Point Charlie and the Brandenburg Gate which is only about 30 minutes away from Generator Prenzlauer Berg on the tram.
