Berlin Art Week 2014
If you missed the Berlin Gallery Weekend in May this year don’t worry as you will have another opportunity to see some of the city’s most brilliant art with Berlin Art Week this September.
The whole city will be out in force to see some of the most up-to-date art from local and international artists. Gallery shows, art fairs, exhibitions and performances will provide a full on feast of creativity.
Abc Art Fair
Art Berlin Contemporary (abc) holds an annual fair during art week at Luckenwalder Straße. This is a chance to pick up some genuine art for yourself.
Hamish Fulton: Walking East – Walking West
Get a bit of exercise with your art and go along on the public walk at Straße des 17 Juni on the 21st September. You can be part of the art as walking artist Hamish Fulton leads a line of walkers along one of Berlin’s most famous streets.
Some of the larger galleries will be hosting several events over the course of Art Week. The Berlinische Galerie will be experimenting in the kitchen with the Kuchenmonument sculpture outside and will be offering the public a chance to sponsor a piece of art in the Open Studio!
For a break in the day try Barcomi’s on Bergmann Straße in the trendy Kreuzberg district. Their coffee is famed across the city as the best and they have an extensive and delicious selection of cakes to go alongside.
For a larger meal try the great Yellow Sunshine on Wiener Straße. This is a vegetarian/vegan fast food joint that offers all the classic take away meals with a no-meat twist. They even do a vegetarian currywurst which is as good as the original!
The Berlinische Galerie is right in the centre of the city not far from Museum Island and can be reached in about 20 minutes from either Generator Hostel. Take the U6 from Oranienburger Tor to Kochstr/Checkpoint Charlie stop or the M6 from Landsberger Alee then the 248 bus from Alexanderplatz to the Jüdisches Museum stop.
