Swab Barcelona International Contemporary Art Fair
The art world is slowly changing: no longer is high art for the elite only – nowadays you can see art everywhere from public parks and streets to city walls and even on underground trains. In Barcelona this October you can get a chance to see some truly amazing work in an accessible setting at the SWAB art fair.
The fair aims to break free from traditional viewing and displays some of the most innovative and emerging art in the world. The artists are all brand new talent from across Europe and the list includes many local to Barcelona.
Swab is at the Fira Montjuic Exhibition Centre in Barcelona which is a major venue in the city and is easy to get to. So if you are looking for some high culture to broaden your artistic horizons then SWAB is definitely an event not to miss.
When you have had your fill of art and need some sustenance there are quite a few great restaurants nearby. Try Filigrana right on Placa Espanya for a delicious no nonsense dinner served by friendly staff and it won’t break the bank either. A short walk up the Avingudadel Parallel will find you at Basilico. Here you can expect a delicious mix of Mediterranean inspired dishes in a rustic setting.
Looking for a cocktail to whet your appetite? Head to B-Bar on Gran Via de les Corts – the views across the city at night from the terrace are superb.
Fira Barcelona is a huge venue right in the centre of the city on the Placa Espanya. The best way to get there from Generator Barcelona is on the L3 which you can catch from the Diagonal only a 10 minute walk away. The journey takes about 20 minutes and the trains run every 3 minutes.
