Sonar Festival Barcelona
Barcelona is a city made for music festivals. The warm summer weather means a great outdoor party all weekend. Sonar is one of the big boys on the European festival circuit and has a dual personality. By day at Fira Montjuïc as well as bands there will be multi-media displays and new media art. By night it is strictly music all the way at Fira Gran Via de L’Hospitalet.
Big names on the Sonar line up include Massive Attack, who played Sonar 10 years ago; Neneh Cherry, a stunning diva who needs no introduction; and drum ‘n’ bass kings Rudimental. But we think some of the smaller less well known groups are worth a listen too. Check out some of these bands at the festival:
Throwing Snow – By Day
For a great clubbing set Throwing Snow will do a top job. A former astrophysics student turned producer, Ross Tones mixes old and new styles with dub-step, house and disco-funk tracks.
Röyksopp & Robyn – By Night
The Norwegian duo and Swedish singer are back together for a tour du force on Friday 13th. This gig will be hard to top as their last collaboration produced “The Girl And The Robot” from their critically acclaimed album “Junior”.
Chic feat. Nile Rodgers – By Night
Classic disco band Chic is swinging by to make an appearance on Saturday 14th. Probably most famous for their first hit “Dance, Dance, Dance”, Chic will be bringing along their original guitarist and all-round music legend Nile Rodgers.
James Murphy + 2manydjs – By Day
Another amazing collaboration is the one between co-founder of DFA records, James Murphy, and Belgian brothers 2manydjs. James Murphy’s last project, alternative dance band LCD Soundsystem, had 3 hugely popular albums and you will probably have heard of the track “All My Friends”. Stephen and David are old hands at the DJ business having had their own radio show called “Hang the DJ” and their other project Soulwax.
