2014 Basketball World Cup
So this year we have seen football, tennis and rugby, but what about other world class sports? If you are in Barcelona this September you could be in for a treat with the 2014 Basketball World Cup. Spain is hosting the event and some of the matches will be held in other cities like Madrid and Granada, but there will be plenty of action at Palau Sant Jordi for basketball fans.
Favourites to win are Spain and the USA although they have some hot competition in the perhaps surprising form of Finland and Australia. The earlier games will be played in other cities and once the teams are down to the last 16 they will be split between Barcelona and Madrid.
The area around Palau Sant Jordi is a little way out of the main city but you can still find some great places to have a bit to eat. Try the Tablao De Carmen on Calle Arcos; if you book in advance you can get in one of the best flamenco shows in the city as well as some delicious authentic Spanish food.
If you are looking for a little more life then you should probably head back into the city. Just across the square from Generator Barcelona is Restaurant Gut. This is a cosy little place, particularly known for its tasty vegetarian dishes. The owners will make you feel very welcome and are happy to help with any menu choices.
Palau Sant Jordi is one of the bigger event venues in the city and it is right at the southern end of Montjuic Hill. It should take about an hour to get there by bus from Generator Barcelona; catch the 55 from Placa de Mossen Jacint Verdaguer.
