Top Ten Live Comedy Shows In Dublin
If you are visiting Dublin then a trip to one of the many comedy clubs is a must. Some will even let you get up on stage yourself if you are a budding comedian. Many of the venues are in walking distance of the Generator hostel in Dublin or only a short trip by public transport. Here is a list of our top 10 favourite comedy shows and venues in Dublin:
1. Comedy at The International Bar
Hosting a different comedy night seven days a week in the upstairs bar from “The Comedy Cellar” to the “International Comedy Club” you’re sure to find something that tickles your funny bone. Some of the acts who started here have gone on to great comedic heights, like Ardal O’Hanlon, Kevin Gildea and PJ Gallagher.
2. Vicar Street
This is arguably Dublin’s top venue with the comedy giants like Alan Davies, John Bishop, Dara O’Briain and Neil Delamere performing here. The intimate feel of this venue makes it extremely popular with fans and acts alike.
3. Battle of the Axe Comedy Club
Every Tuesday and Thursday is open mic night at the Ha’penny Bridge Inn in the heart of Temple Bar. With Dublin Comedy Award winning MC’s such as Gerry McBride and Sharon Mannion and the chance to win a certificate and The Lucky Duck award if you get up on stage this comedy night is well worth a look.
4. Capital Comedy Club
Located upstairs in The Ha’ Penny Bridge Inn and is open Wednesdays and Sundays from 9pm. Book online for extra discounts. Famous acts include Rory O’Hanlon, Fred Cooke and Simon O’Keeffe who is the resident MC.
5. The Comedy Shed at The Woolshed
Originally an Australian themed bar (the owner is an Aussie) The Woolshed is now one of Dublin’s premiere sports bars, however, they have a great comedy night every Monday. Featuring well known acts like John Colleary, Daniel-Ryan Spaulding and Damian Clark, a night of side splitting laughter is on the cards.
6. The Laughter Lounge
Does what it says on the tin. Over the years more than 3,000 comics have graced its stage some of the top names in the business including Jimmy Carr, Justin Lee-Collins, Ed Byrne, Michael McIntyre and Sarah Millican have performed here.
7. The Craic Pack Comedy Improv at The Bankers Bar
Every Friday night the audience get to suggest themes and subjects for this totally improvised show by the Dublin based improv group The Craic Pack. The accomplished comedians act out even the most obscure of suggestions, including the challenge of interpreting a turnip at a wedding!
8. Stand Up at The Bankers
Every Saturday night at The Bankers you can see the best comedic talent in the city perform. The Bankers is an intimate venue and with a great pint of Guinness on tap you’ve got the perfect ingredients for a great night of hilarity.
9. The Green Room Bar Open Mic night
This is your chance to show your star quality on stage. This normally modern and trendy wine bar transforms every Tuesday into a hot spot of Dublin’s up and coming talent. Right by the O2, The Green Room bar is the perfect pre-amble to any huge show.
10. Comedy Ha Ha at The Mercantile
Every Wednesday in “The Venue” part of the Mercantile Bar is the Comedy Ha Ha Club. With improv shows and also straight up stand up the comedy is varied and comes fast, furious but always very funny and it’s only 5 Euros to get in! Everyone likes a cheap laugh!
