Best Late Night Jazz Bars in Copenhagen
Copenhagen is known worldwide as a city that loves jazz. If you want a real flavour of the Danish capital then a trip to a late night jazz bar will set you up a treat.
Jazzhus Montmartre – Store Regnegade 19A
One of the legends of the Copenhagen jazz scene, Jazzhus Montmartre is just around the corner from Generator which makes it the perfect place to finish off your evening before a short stumble back to bed. Montematre is known for its warm welcome and you can expect an intimate, homey feel to the place. If you are new to jazz then this is an ideal place to listen to some of the best music in Copenhagen.
Jazz House – Niels Hemmingsens Gade 10
As another of the leading jazz clubs in Copenhagen you can expect loads of live concerts with big names. And again you get the feeling that this is someone’s home and everyone is happy to be there. You are welcome to sit and have a drink and a chat while listening to their favourite music. There is also a large dance floor if you feel the need.
If you are looking for the latest of late nights then La Fontaine ticks all the boxes. Being the oldest jazz club in Copenhagen their reputation for late night jam sessions is legendary. Located right in the beating heart of the city you will find a livelier atmosphere here and you can get in for free before 10pm.
During the day Cafe Kellerdick is an active but otherwise unassuming cafe but by night a jumping jazz venue. You will probably notice a more theatrical theme to this place with the stage and comfortable, plush chairs. Located in Frederiksberg it is easy to get to and well worth the trip for some genuine jazz.
Another late, late night club in the centre of the city. Charlie Scott’s is a very small bar and you could end up sitting right next to the band. If you go here you will find that many of the clientèle are hardened jazz fans and are here regularly for their fix of live music so it is a good way to meet like minded locals.
A small slice of Argentinian loveliness in the Danish capital. If you love a good steak then go there for a pre-show dinner as their meat is thoughtfully and usually locally sourced. The jazz happens at the weekend and often features Danish jazz stars as well as new talent.
Although not strictly a live music venue the gigs there are usually jazz themed and of course there is Piano Bar Thursdays. This cosy bar is a step back to a more elegant time with welcoming leather chairs and walls lined with antique oil paintings and shelves stuffed with ancient tomes. A comforting place to have a drink and enjoy the tinkle of ivories.
This place has been on the Copenhagen music scene for more than 4 decades and they know their stuff. As it is in the district of Christianshavn you can expect a very bohemian ambience here. There is usually live jazz on every week and the people who come here know their music.
