Melt Festival – 18-20th July 2014

Location: Ferropolis, Grafenhainichen

Melt! Festival is located at Ferropolis, an open-air museum containing some of the biggest machinery and vehicles used in 20th Century Germany. Some of them weigh up to 1980 tonnes and reach 30 metres high, providing an industrial backdrop for the music, described by organisers as ‘electronic meets rock’.

More than 25,000 people visited last year’s festival with 40 electronica and rock acts performing between disco balls suspended from trusses and flames thrown from the museum’s mighty cranes. This year’s line-up looks as hard-hitting as ever with electronica UK band, Portishead announced along with Metronomy, Dusky, Bombay Bicycle Club, Haim and a live performance from Royksopp and Robyn.

Tickets: Regular three-day tickets for the event are available for €135,90 (booking fee included). Those wishing to join the official Melt! Festival party early can also buy a pre-party ticket for €10 (only valid in combination with a three-day ticket).

Greenville Festival – 25-27th July 2014

Location: Paaren im Glien, Brandenburg

The third year of the Greenville Festival will feature the best in metal, hip-hop and alternative rock just 30km outside of Berlin’s city centre. Last year’s festival attracted more than 20,000 fans with its three-day line-up and two open-air stages hosting some epic names from the Wu-Tang Clan to Bloodhound Gang.

They may well have gone one better this year with an exclusive appearance from the ‘doggfather of hip-hop’, Snoop Dogg aka Snoop Lion, performing his classics from the last 20 years. There’s plenty of rock’n’roll to feast upon too with Pete Doherty’s band Babyshambles returning along with Maximo Park, The Hives and Reel Big Fish.

Tickets: Day tickets are priced at €59 per person and three-day tickets for the entire event are very reasonably priced at just €99 per person.

Travel: Generator Berlin Mitte is 25-30km away from Paaren im Glien via train or car.

The festival recommends travelling by bus and train via Berlin Spandau. The station is within range of the BVG, zone AB. From there, Greenville is within reach by a regional train to Brieselang and a shuttle bus to take you directly to the festival ground. Greenville Festival is also accessible by car via the Falkensee Motorway.

Berlin Festival 2014 – 5-7th September 2014

Location: Tempelhof Airport

The Berlin Festival 2014 takes place at the now defunct Tempelhof Airport in Berlin with 70 artists set to rock three main stages as well as the festival’s legendary ‘Mobile Disko’ with more than 10,000 headphones available to partygoers. The festival also boasts an eclectic Art Village, with more than 60 national and international artists showcasing stunning urban art, murals, sculptures and performances.

Some of the biggest names in music have headlined the Berlin Festival in years gone by, from The Killers and Pete Doherty to Blur and Primal Scream. This year’s line-up sees the return of Editors who headlined the festival back in 2010, along with the likes of Bombay Bicycle Club, Jessie Ware, Warpaint and a Chase and Status DJ set. Alongside the festival, you can enjoy the full Berlin experience with free entry to more than 30 nightclubs across the capital.

Our hostel is on the same line as Platz der Luftbrucke and Tempelhof (U6) for easy access.
