Guide To Music Festivals In Barcelona
Barcelona is a city of culture and passion. If you plan to visit this amazing city in 2013 why not catch some great music as well? We have picked out our favourite music festivals this year in Barcelona:
Sonar – 14th – 16th June
Crave Kraftwerk or pant for the Pet Shop Boys? Then Sonar is your type of music festival. It is Barcelona’s premier electronic music festival and the warm weather in June will be perfect to accompany some top tunes. Artists like Laurent Garnier, Diplo and Two Door Cinema Club will be doing their thing on the stages at Sonar this year. Sonar by Night is at the Fira Gran Via area in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat and is basically just a huge set of concerts, festival style. Sonar by Day is a slightly different animal with showcases, a professional zone and an exhibition area and is at Fira Montjuïc area in Plaça d’Espanya.
Primervera Sound 22nd – May – 26th May
This is how we all want our festivals to be – warm and sunny, by the sea with fantastic music from top names and indie groups too. Primervera Sound pretty much lets the music speak for itself and so there are not too many extras here; but you won’t need any entertaining just rock up from 4pm and party until dawn with some of the best music and musicians in the world. This year’s line up is one of the finest yet with huge bands like Blur, My Bloody Valentine and Animal Collective to amazing solo artists like Nick Cave and James Blake.
BAM (Barcelona Acció Musical) Barcelona – 20th – 22nd September
BAM – a festival all about promoting independent artists, what could be better? The music is varied and covers the lot from the latest electronic through to rock and pop and pretty much everything in between. So there is sure to be something to suit your tastes; whether you‘re a home boy, a rocker or even a Goth. Last year there were acts like The Kooks, Che Sudaka and Vetusta Morla – see what we mean by varied?
Barcelona Guitar Festival – 20th February – 9th May
This is probably one of the longest festivals on record. But this just means more time to fit in some dazzling talent. With top names, like Paul Gilbert, Ron Sexsmith and The Eels on the bill this is one not to miss for finger picking lovers. Also featuring up and coming names and local talent like Hidrogenesse, Jane Joyd and Hola a Todo El Mundo you will be spoilt for choice. Check out Paul Gilbert’s insane guitar.
Traditional Folk Festival Barcelona – 11th January – 22nd March
A list of festivals wouldn’t be complete without a Folk Festival, so here it is. The Traditional Folk Festival Barcelona is now in its 25th year, so if you are all about the toe tapping, accordion playing and pipe blowing type of music then this is for you.
