Looking back at our best events in 2013
2013 has been an awesome year for events.
‘The Long Way home’ by Thomas Skou
We kicked off our new events program with The Long Way Home exhibition launching our new gallery space in Copenhagen hostel back in December 2012.
Since then we have progressed to hiring an event coordinator in each hostel who programs all our local activities. Including events, exhibitions, private event production, fashion shows, partnerships with locals and so much more.
Generator event coordinators are usually locals themselves with networks of people they work with and a deep understanding of the cities sub cultures; of which there are usually many. We know that in these great urban cities it is often difficult to find your way off the beaten track that’s why we do our best to bring bits of the city to you in the hostel and then offer the best advice we can of other things going on outside. Just ask our staff and check out our blogs.
It is difficult to summarise a year of activities but below highlights some of our favourites.
Berlin – Origin
This was a first for us when we did it but definitely not the last; strong vibes! We hosted a party in the building site of our Berlin Mitte hostel before it opened. Staying true to the raw industrial edge of the city we had street artists come do live painting, a beautiful fire performance, fire flaring and vinyl only DJs. (BLOG)
Barcelona – Jest
We should have know: party in Barcelona = mayhem. Excellent mayhem but mayhem non the less. What an incredible night! Full of so much talent and colour, passion and debauchery. The number of collaborators we managed to include in this event is still awe-inspiring. Thank you to all the talent. Incredible. (BLOG)
Berlin – Greenville Festival
Another huge success this saw Heisskalt playing on the roof of our Berlin Prenslauer Berg hostel on live TV and then host a concert after. This was a warm up for the epic Greenville Festival that was still to come. (BLOG)
Copenhagen – Roschkilde Festival Warm Up Party
Roschkilde is the biggest festival in Europe so when they asked us to be their officially warm up party we couldn’t wait. Festival party in Autumn, yes please.
Barcelona – Fresh Faces World Finals 2013
The 30 finalists from all over the world arrived for the Fresh Faces modelling finals 2013. Generator and the W Hotel were the official sponsors. Great day – lots of heads turned. (BLOG)
Venice Opening- Kitsuné Club Night
To celebrate the launch weekend of our Venice hostel we partnered with Kitsuné to throw a club night. Notorious house DJ and founder Gildas played alongside Jerry Bouthier, His Majesty Andre and Lorcan Mak. The beats were unreal, it was a completely packed house with guests spilling out onto the walkway along the grand canal. Not a bad way to party, Venice style. (BLOG)
Berlin Mitte Opening – Evolution
Berlin being acheingly cool left no choice but to choose innovation and quality. We partnered with Australian record label modular for the music, Graffiti Research Lab for some interactive art and Keledebande who specialised in neon tape art. In addition to the event we also launched our first Generator Residency with Urban Art Clash taking over our downstairs exhibition space. (BLOG)
Dublin – Generator Live
We decided to launch our new concept Generator Live in Dublin on the night of Halloween. Bringing together the most cutting edge technology, an incredible line up of underground DJs and then streaming it live at our hostels across Europe. It was a cracker. (BLOG)
Next year promises one of a kind, creative events and even more massive parties. If you can’t wait, take a look at our Generator Residency finalists to wet your appetite. They’ll be in residence working on their permanent pieces over at Generator Venice throughout January and February. Talents you don’t want to miss.
It was one cracker of a year. Thanks to all of you who made it to one of our parties. See you in 2014.
BRING IT ON !
