up to 50€……………………………………….…….1€

Here’s an example:

If a room at the Hamburg hostel is booked with a price amounting to 150€ by two or three persons, culture and tourism tax is calculated as follows:

150€ : 2 (persons) = 75€ = 2€ tax x 2 = altogether 4€ tax
150€ : 3 (persons) = 50€ = 1€ tax x 3 = altogether 3€ tax

There are exceptions:

Overnight stays related to an essential business occasion will not be taxed and the tax only applies to short-term accommodation with a duration of less than two months.

The tax is only be applicable to bookings confirmed after the 1st January 2013. All existing bookings confirmed in 2012 for 2013 are exempt from any charges.
