Guest Blog: A Cool Christmas in Smithfield
Smithfield Square isn’t just home to more-than-a-hostel Generator, it is home to the creative hotbed of Block T, and this Christmas they’ve several pop-up events on that you won’t want to miss.
Block T Christmas Craft & Design Christmas Pop-up Shop
Sure, there will be temptation to buy for yourself as well as for those on your gift list, but go on; no harm in buying yourself just one thing. Running every Thursday to Sunday through 22 December you may want to go to this pop-up more than once. One thing for yourself each visit is okay, isn’t it?
Here’s what Block T has to say:
‘BLOCK T offers great space for ‘arty’ & unique Christmas gift ideas sold by artists, designers and all sorts of other creatives in and around Dublin.’
What’s the buzz?
As a creative incubator, BLOCK T is the perfect location for this Craft & Design Christmas Pop-up Shop. Located in the heart of Smithfield, it offers a cozy environment away from the hectic festive shopping hustle with the possibility to grab a nice cup of coffee/tea and wander along the tables and shelves to find affordable and unique art, handmade crafts & jewelry, records, posters and many more.
Where is it happening?
BLOCK T Showroom, 1-6 Haymarket, Smithfield, Dublin 7
(just off the Luas track at Smithfield station)
When is it hitting the scene?
Pop-up Shop Opening Hours:
Thursday, December 7 @ 11.30am – Sunday, December 22 @ 6.30pm
Every Thursday to Sunday with late Thursday openings (till 8pm)
Who is taking part?
Artists, designers and creative people with their wide range of unique, ‘arty’, creative gift ideas as well as Studio Members of BLOCK T with their creative products, ranging from artisan crafts to music records.
Sunday, 8 December sees the legendary Shutterbug vintage clothing Kilo Sale come to Smithfield Square.
Some of you may already know of Shutterbug’s fantastic shop in Kilkenny City, as their fame has spread far & wide. Now’s your chance to load up on their vintage goods here in Dublin, as pieces in this Smithfield sale are sold by weight at just €20 per kilo. There’ll also be pop-up shops to round out your unique-gift Christmas shopping.
On the weekend of 13-15 December, The Dublin Flea Christmas Cracker at Block T takes over.
There will be around 100 stalls of arty, vintage, unique & tasty items at the Flea—don’t miss this urban treasure trove. You’ll get a sample of what the Christmas Cracker will be like from last year’s video: Christmas Cracker Flea Market 2012 from BLOCK TV
PSST! I’ll let you in on another Christmas treat.
Also on the Square is the indie Lighthouse Cinema, and they’ll be showing loads of Christmas movies. So after your shopping, don your Christmas jumper, slip into your vintage gear and go watch a Crimbo film . When you’re done, stroll by the Christmassy lights over to Generator for a few cocktails & craft beers. Happy Christmas indeed.
