Generator Live Launch: Halloween Special
Generator Live recently launched their Halloween night special in Dublin, seeing the creation of a new sub brand for the group. In doing this, Generator Dublin has taken one huge leap in building it’s reputation as a stand alone music venue. In a city where punters are spoiled for choice, standing out from the crowd has never been more important.
Local favourites Lorcan Mak and Frank B got the place moving as the crowds started to build from as early as 8pm. Mr Mak, having recently moved to London, hasn’t played the Emerald Isle since his set at Life festival in May. It didn’t take long for him to remind everyone what they had been missing. In contrast Frank B exploded onto the Dublin scene during the summer, playing nearly every festival imaginable (Life, Longitude, Oxegen & electric picnic). He lived up to his billing, setting the stage for kiwi duo Chaos in the CBD, whose Track ‘I’m losing you’ blew the crowd away.
The man given the task of closing this ground-breaking session was none other than French gentleman Manarè. Signed to the same Parisian label (ClekCkekBoom) as Chaos, his set took the mood to a new level as the night went into full pelt.
The best bit? The Generator Live stream was shown across all other venues in Europe including online and Facebook. This event showcased the finest in local music talent, combined with some household names from across Europe. At the end of the night whether you experienced Generator Live in the flesh, or were only lucky enough to watch it on screen, the same question was on everyone’s lips: When’s the next one?”
CHAOS IN THE CBD
♫ I’m Losing You ♫
As a producers, DJs and brothers, Chaos In The CBD (aka Ben and Louis Helliker-Hales) spent several years building a reputation in New Zealand as part of a new generation of house progenitors, before relocating to London last year to push their sound to the masses.
Their story is a now familiar tale in the world of electronic music: two figures isolated from the experimental music epicentres of Detroit, London, Berlin et al whilst in their native Auckland, their pop-influenced style of house is heavily influenced by classic house, techno and garage, whilst remaining modern in their approach to what electronic music can represent in 2013.
♫ Down To Dis ♫
After quickly establishing himself as one of the go-to Djs of underground club music in Paris Manaré linked up with pioneering French label Clek Clek Boom back in 2009 through his long-time friend and fellow label artist French Fries. It wasn’t until 2012, however, that he dropped his critically acclaimed debut EP “Quartz / Down To Dis”.
You could just describe his sound as Ghetto & UK Influenced House & Bass; but that really doesn’t pin him down. His eclectic musical origins certainly still inform his selection today.
♫ Chain Of Fools ♫
Frank B is a DJ and producer from Dublin who has recently gained international acclaim for his breakthrough track “Chain of Fools” that was featured on XLR8R and has over 230,000 views on youtube. He began collecting records and playing out age 15 and currently holds a long-running residency at Pogo in Bodytonic’s Twisted Pepper club. Frank’s slippy and gritty house beats are a perfecy addition to this stellar line-up.
♫ You Are My Vision Remix ♫
Lorcan has been a household name on the Dublin clubbing scene since 2009. It was his balkan banger “Gypsy Bum” that was released on Laidback Lukes label Mixmash Records which propelled him into the spotlight. So far Lorcan has already played to crowds exceeding 15,000 as one of the headlining acts at the XBOX Live stage in 2009 & Nokia Live stage in 2010 at Ireland’s “Oxegen Festival” and at the “Little Big Tent” at “Electric Picnic Festival”. His unique and refreshing approach to producing house music and his highly energetic and memorable DJ sets have seen him headline gigs and events all over the world, from New York to Paris and even to Bangkok.
